Biography
The ‘ukulele is a frequently misunderstood instrument with a generally untapped and unlimited amount of musical potential.
One artist helping to turn over a new leaf for the ‘ukulele is
Marcello Sequeira ( UkesterMoe ). With a decidedly smooth sound and eclectic music selections, Marcello pleases audiences and listeners with original material and new twists on familiar tunes.
The 3rd of four musical children, Marcello came by his musical talents naturally. With both parents as music teachers in the school system, his love for music developed at an early age. At the age of 5 he began playing the violin. By the time he reached grade 4, he was also a member of his father’s ‘ukulele ensemble the “Pacifica Ukes”.
Marcello’s musical interests led him in many directions as he developed a proficiency on the violin, ‘ukulele, and bass. Under the direction of Barbara Prowse, he also developed his vocal skills as a member of the Campbell River Children’s Choir. Quickly however, the ‘ukulele emerged as his main instrument.
Graduating from CARIHI Secondary school in 2003, he went on to assist with the “Island Ukuleles” in Victoria, BC, under the direction of Mrs. Tina Horwood and Mrs. Melissa McKnight.
In addition to his performing skills on the ‘ukulele, Marcello began to explore musical theatre and acting in high school. After graduating he attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts where he received the ‘Enriched Performing Arts Certificate’ in April, 2006. For the past 5 summers he has been on professional contract as a stage actor and musician at the Theatre Royal in the historic gold rush town of Barkerville, BC.
